For yet another year, Casa Árabe is taking part in the Cordoba Book Fair. At its 45th edition, those attending will get the chance to see Juan Antonio Pacheco, who will be presenting his most recent work.
The event will be presented by Professor José Ramírez del Río.
Philosophy and Spiritual Thought in Al-Andalus is a journey through the society of Al-Andalus from its beginnings, as well as thought and philosophy in Islam, the beginnings of Muslim thought in Al-Andalus and its contributions to Western culture, up to the historical set of biographies of its greatest intellectuals, from Ibn Masarra and Ibn Hazm to Averroes and Ibn Arabi.

Juan Antonio Pacheco is an Arabist and translator. He is currently a researcher at the University of Granada. He has been a professor of Arab and Islamic Studies at the Universities of Barcelona, Jordan and Seville. He is the President of the Circle of Arab Studies, which is devoted to studying ideas and thought from the classical and contemporary Arab worlds. He was awarded the International “Fifth Centennial” Essay Prize (1992). His specialization is classical and modern Arab and Islamic thought, as well as the Islamic spirituality of Al-Andalus, especially as regards Ibn Arabi, mentioned above. In addition to his many articles, he has authored several reference works in his field of specialization, the most notable of which include El pensamiento árabe contemporáneo (Contemporary Arab Thought, Seville, Mergablum, 2010); La espiritualidad islámica en la Andalucía Medieval (Islamic Spirituality in Medieval Andalusia, Seville, Mergablum, 2010); Rationalism in Contemporary Arab Thought (in Arabic), (Damascus, Dar al-Fikr, 2011); Averroes: una biografía intelectual (Averroes, an Intellectual Biography, Cordoba, Almuzara, 2012). As a translator, he authored the first translations into Spanish of some of the best-known works in modern Arab thought: La Mujer Nueva (The New Woman) by Qasim Amin (Madrid, Egyptian Institute, 2000); El Califato islámico y las bases del poder político de Ali Abd al-Ráziq (The Islamic Caliphate and the Political Power Bases of Ali Abd al-Raziq, Granada, University of Granada, 2010), and La Epístola de la Unicidad (Epistle of Oneness) by Muhammad Abduh (Seville, Arcibel, 2013).
