It draws one’s attention that Algeria is such an invisible, unknown country in Spain, when bearing in mind the economic and security-related interests shared by the two countries. Therein lies the importance of devoting spaces to reflection, analysis and debate, so as to gain more in-depth knowledge of the challenges which this neighboring country currently faces.
The objective of the seminar consists of attempting to interpret the scope of the transformations which affect Algeria within the “post-Arab Spring” context from the generational perspective, in order to go beyond the linear perspective characterized by the classical social sciences focus revolving around the State and society.
Thus, the intention is to analyze the State and society by evaluating the mobilization of new social role-players who have remained at the sidelines of traditional organizations, with their own degree of independence in a fragmented political stage. A few examples of these role-players and topics include the movement by the unemployed in the Algerian Sahara, the art scene in Algiers, businesspeople, caricature in the field of journalism, civil society organizations, etc.
This methodology is ambitious but at the same time makes it possible to analyze the strategies of politicization, de-politicization and re-politicization of society, highlighting the generational factor among role-players and the individual and collective implications related.
