Prejudices and affronts: Islam image on the media

On December 12th, Casa Árabe and the UNESCO Chair on Conflict Resolution of the UCO organize in Cordoba the lecture Prejudices and affronts: Islam image on the media, by Political Science Ph.D. Uthman al-Rawwaf.
The event was introduced by José Ramírez del Río, professor at the University of Cordoba, and took place at Casa Árabe’s Auditorium in Cordoba (c/ Samuel de los Santos Gener, 9) at 19.30. The speech was given in English with simultaneous interpreting into Spanish.
Western media tend to broadcast an image of Islam which very often does not match reality and which many sectors in the Muslim society have acknowledged as intentionally biased campaigns. Recently, media use, maybe irresponsible, have guided to serious political and social problems and to loss of lives. From the privileged stance due to his experience on this field, the lecturer will address these topics analyzing concepts such as freedom of expression.
Uthman al-Rawwaf
Ph.D in Political Science at the Duke University (USA), Secretary General and treasurer at the Center for the Study of al-Andalus and Dialogue Between Civilizations, based in Rabat, a foundation created by patronage of King Hasan II of Morocco and King Fahd of Saudi Arabia in 2001.
Former member of Saudi Arabia’s Consultive Assembly (Shura), counsellor to the ministries of Education and Higher Education, writer for the English section of the al-Sharq al-Awsat journal.
He has also Publisher different books and scientific articles both in English and in Arabic, as well as personal counselor to the emir Abd al-Aziz b. Fahd. He currentrly lives between Rihad, London and Rabat.
