Death of a Virgin and the Sin of Not Living, by George Peter Barbari (2021 / Lebanon / 87 minutes) Fiction
We are all attempting to get through life as best we can. It is a constant struggle, an endless adventure, each person’s unique story ending in one inevitable way. Étienne’s case is no different. Even though he woke up knowing today wasn’t going to be just another ordinary day, he could never have expected it to be the day he woke up to. Étienne’s best friend Adnan takes him, Jean Paul and Dankoura to visit a prostitute for the first time. They are three troubled teenagers on the way to losing their virginity and gaining acceptance as “real men.” However, several unexpected events lead Étienne on an unforeseen journey which forces him to explore his own inner self. Étienne enters but never really comes out.
