Presentation of "Alizeti, Fugitive of the Sun"

On Monday, May 27, Casa Árabe and Plataforma Editorial are presenting this work by Tunisian writer Mohamed Doggui in Madrid. He will also be participating in the event. Along with the author of the novel, taking part in the event will be Jordi Nadal, director of Plataforma Editorial, and Eduardo López Busquets, General Director of Casa Árabe.
The presentation will take place at 7:00 p.m. at the Casa Árabe Auditorium in Madrid (c/ Alcalá, 62) at 7:00 p.m., with free entry until the room’s capacity is full.
Elicana and Selemani get along so well that nobody could every doubt that they were made for each other. Their desire to build a new life together leads them to leave the university and move to the region of Mwanza, where he begins to work at a by Text-Enhance">gold mining company. They never suspected how rough and inhumane it could be to work in the mines, but their efforts will be worthwhile if it allows them to get married and start a family. Despite the difficulties, the couple’s happiness grows so fast that their only fear is that some unexpected hurdle will arise in their path, blocking the way. With the birth of their albino daughter, Alizeti, they will have to fight to give her a good life, in a world filled with threats for a small child as vulnerable as she is.
Plataforma Editorial, with the cooperation of Casa Árabe, presents this moving novel, which is an outcry against the situation of albino children in Sub-Saharan Africa.
A Tunisian poet and novelist who expresses himself in Spanish, in 2009 he was the winner of the Second International “Stories from the Straits” competition, with his work “Mamadú y los verbos españoles” (“Mamadou and the Spanish Verbs,” Cádiz, Fundación Dos Orillas, 2009). He is also the author of two books of poems: “Entre Levante y Poniente” (“Between East and West”) with a prologue by Julio Martínez Mesanza (Madrid, Sial Ediciones, 2006) and “Derroche de azabache” (“Jet Black Waste”), with a prologue by José Sarria (not yet published). His poetic work is included in “Calle del agua: Antología de literatura hispanomagrebí” (“Street of Water: Anthology of Hispano-Maghrebi Literature” Madrid, Sial Ediciones, 2008), in several monographic issues of the literary journal Entreríos (Granada) and in the intercultural journal Dos orillas (Algeciras). Notable amongst the literary critiques of his work, both poetry and narrative, are those of the Andalusian critics José Sarria and Manuel Gahete.
Besides his creative activities, Mohamed Doggui is a professor of Spanish at the university and at the Cervantes Institute of Tunis. Since 1998, he has been the author and host of a weekly radio program on the Spanish language and Hispanic culture on Radio Tunisia’s International Channel (RTCI).
