Baynana means “Between Us,” and the intention is to give the broadest possible meaning to these words: ‘we’ are ‘everyone’; there are no ‘others’ or ‘them.’ Created through the cooperation of a group of Syrian journalists living in Madrid and the porCausa Foundation, it is the first medium in Spain designed and run by refugees. Their goal is to increase the visibility of the everyday reality of migrant and refugee communities in Spain, addressing issues of concern to these groups while narrating their experiences in the first person, through the plurality of voices that take part in publishing the magazine. Muhammed Subat. A journalist who specializes in war conflicts, and social and political issues in Syria and the Middle East, with over five years of experience in the media, including Syria TV. As a refugee and migrant, he is currently performing his professional work in journalism on migration, refugees, inequality and social justice. He completed his degree in Psychology at the University of Damascus (Syria). His passion for journalism came about as a result of the war in his country. His goal has been to increase the visibility of, document and denounce the major humanitarian crisis and human rights violations which the Syrian population have endured, through truthful, transparent information.

Andrea Olea. Coordinator of Baynana. With a bachelor’s degree in Journalism and a Master’s degree in degree in Democracy and Human Rights in the Arab World, Olea began her career at the Efe News Agency and has worked as a correspondent for nearly a decade, initially in France and then in Lebanon, for Spanish and international media including Público, eldiario.es, Pikara Magazine, the AFP News Agency and Euronews, as well as others. She is currently the director and coordinator of Baynana magazine, a project of the porCausa Foundation.
