Presentation of Traveling Through the Maghreb
From February 19, 2013 until March 06, 2013
On March 6th in Madrid, Casa Árabe and Centro Sefarad-Israel are co-organizing the presentation of Viajando por el Magreb (Traveling Through the Maghreb) by José Edery, a work which portrays the history, geography and traditions of the Maghreb.
Attending the event will be the book’s author, accompanied by Rafael Mendívil, Undersecretary of the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation; Jon Juaristi, a writer and the Director General of Universities; Fernando Villalonga, a deputy from the Department of Arts, Sports and Tourism of Madrid’s Municipal Government; Florentino Portero, Director General of Centro Sefarad Israel, and Eduardo López Busquets, Director General of Casa Árabe.
This presentation of the work’s second edition will take place at 7:30 p.m. in the Casa Árabe Auditorium (c/ Alcalá, 62) with free entry until the room’s capacity is full.
A Sephardic Jew born in Larache, Edery was the director of the Medical Office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for years. He possesses a great deal of experience in Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia. In his work, he uses humor, sensitivity and keen observations to recreate a world filled with both uniqueness and similarities. Evoking a culture which remained on the Iberian Peninsula for centuries and describing the often exemplary co-existence of the great monotheistic religions are just a few of the themes you will find in this journey through the Spanish Maghreb.
