As it does each year, Casa Árabe is celebrating this important month in the Muslim calendar. Come back and check this page for information on what the month symbolizes and the activities we will be hosting.
For yet another year, Casa Árabe is ready to celebrate this important month in the Muslim calendar, a very special date for themore than 2,000,000 Muslims in Spain. A celebration that begins with the sighting of the first crescent of the moon (the ninth month of the Islamic calendar) and which this year will be taking placebetween Saturday, March 1 and Sunday, March 30.
The celebration is very obviously rooted in religion, dating back to 610 AD,when, according to Islamic tradition, Muhammad appeared before the archangel Gabriel and revealed to him the Qur’an, the sacred book of Islam. The revelation,Laylat Al Qadar (Night of Destiny),reportedly occurred during Ramadan.
Throughout the various editions held in Madrid and Cordoba, Casa Árabe’s Ramadan program has become well-known as a unique gathering to increase awareness about the culture of the Muslim world, so present in our common history, in which some can celebrate their most important holiday while others get to share and learn from the reality of their closest neighbors.
We invite you to wish all of the Muslims you know a Happy Ramadan, just as we will be doing, throughout this month of feasting and celebration: ”Ramadan Mubarak.”
