On the occasion of this celebration, Casa Árabe is offering special
activities for a whole month, including workshops, conferences,
exhibitions, concerts and more.
For the second year in a row, Casa Árabe, the Municipal Government of Cordoba and the Halal Institute have organized a series of activities to celebrate this important religious, sociocultural and festive event.
This edition has also received the support of UNHCR Spain (the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees), which will be taking part in these activities with a stand where it will be providing information on its efforts in the field of humanitarian work.

“Migrating Kites” exhibition
From June 18, 2015 until July 17, 2015Monday through Friday from 11:00 a.m.-6:30 p.m.CóRDOBACasa Árabe Exhibition halls (at Calle Samuel de los Santos Gener, 9). Monday through Friday from 11:00 a.m.-6:30 p.m. Free entrance until the event’s capacity is reached.This display by Egyptian artist Ahmed Keshta forms part of the Nights of Ramadan activities held by Casa Árabe in Cordoba.In this exhibit, Keshta (1978), attempts to do away with myths and borders between the West and the Arab and Muslim world. On this occasion, to celebrate Ramadan through his own personal experience as an Egyptian and Muslim living in in Europe, Keshta tries to show the similarities between the sacred festivity of the Muslims and the most important of all Christian festivities, Christmas, precisely in the melting pot of cultures which Cordoba is now and has always been.

“Cueros artísticos: Time on the Skin”
From June 18, 2015 until July 17, 2015Monday through Thursday from 6:00-8:00 p.m.CóRDOBABiblioteca Viva de al-Andalus (Cuesta del Bailío, 3) Monday through Thursday from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Free entrance until the event’s capacity is reached.Beatriz Martínez González exhibits her work as part of the activities forming the Nights of Ramadan.Exhibition of works by Beatriz Martinez Gonzales, who uses a mixed technique in her compositions resulting from research that she has performed on techniques based on a foundation of guadamecí and embossing. The main themes which the artist includes in her compositions deal with arabesque cultural expression, including atauriques (plant arabesques) and landscapes.

Karam Abdelhamid & Al Maqam
June 18, 201510:00 p.m.CóRDOBARoyal Botanical Garden 10:00 p.m. Free entrance until the event’s capacity is reached.Concert of music from the Sufi tradition accompanied by dancing dervishes, as part of the activities in the Nights of Ramadan.Sufism represents one of the most important esoteric traditions within Islam. Its ultimate goal is to perform practices which lead to experiencing a melding of one’s being with that of the Divine Essence, the mystical unity. Amongst its many expressions, this concert presents a repertoire of music from the Sufi world, aimed at creating a state of ecstasy in celebration through rhythms and dances.

Concert of modal singing

The concert forms part of the activities put on by Casa Árabe during the Nights of Ramadan.At the workshop, organized at Casa Árabe on the dates of June 15-19, students learn musical improvisation through the theory of modes and their practice, not only as a form of personal or group expression, but also as a form of communication between people through sounds.

Concert by Al Turaz Al Andalusi
June 26, 201510:00 p.m.CóRDOBARey Heredia 22 Cultural Space 10:00 p.m. Free entrance until the event’s capacity is reached.Syrian music, Al-Andalus style pieces and Sufi music, accompanied by traditional dances, as part of the Nights of RamadanLed by the well-known singer from Aleppo, Mahmoud Fares, the group Al Turaz Al Andalusí will be presenting a repertoire of Syrian songs which contain a fusion of Eastern pieces in the style of Al-Andalus (Al Tarab Al Andalusí) and Sufi music (Al Inshad Aldini, accompanied by traditional dances (cane dance, whirling dervishes, Sufi dance) by Mahamed Babli.

Lajee Dabke Dancers
July 02, 201510:00 p.m.CóRDOBARoyal Botanical Garden 10:00 p.m. Free entrance until the event’s capacity is reached.Exhibit of traditional Palestinian dance as part of the Nights of Ramadan.This show forms part of a cultural tour of Spain being completed by a group of young refugees who have come from the Aida Refugee Camp in Bethlehem.
The program for dabkeh, Palestine’s traditional folklore dance, has been one of the projects at the Lajee Center since it first opened. At this cultural community center, working with new generations of Palestinians inside the Aida Refugee Camp, weekly dabkeh classes are taught by Nasim Abu Amsha, who is responsible for two groups of different ages and skill levels.
The main dabkeh group at the Lajee Center, with dancers ranging in age from 15 to 18, has been performing together since they were children. They put on shows regularly at events throughout the entire area of Palestine (West Bank), as well as international events in Egypt and Syria. They also take part in cultural events twice a year in the United Kingdom, along with photographic exhibitions and film shoots.

Concert by La Banda Morisca
July 04, 201510:00 p.m.CóRDOBARoyal Botanical Garden 10:00 p.m. Free entrance until the event’s capacity is reached.The group will be performing a repertoire that mixes influences from the Eastern and Western Mediterranean during the Nights of Ramadan.The group is made up of musicians of different origins who share the common thread if the music from their roots and tradition, with a concern for experimenting and evoking the cultural heritage of old Al-Andalus and its reflection in the sounds of today’s Andalusia, Maghreb and Middle East.
Inspired by this heritage from Al-Andalus and traditional romance poetry, the group proposes a creative, original view of a repertoire which mixes Eastern and Western Mediterranean influences (moaxajas of Al-Andalus, chaabi, Dahmane el Harachi, Nass el Ghiwane...) with the spirit of traditional flamenco and Andalusian rock (El Chozas, Lole y Manuel, Triana...).

Conference/workshop on “guadamecí”

“Secrets of Al-Andalus” concert

“Ziryab’s Tales” storytelling
July 15, 201510:00 p.m.CóRDOBARey Heredia 22 Cultural Space 10:00 p.m. Free entrance until the event’s capacity is reached.As part of the Nights of Ramadan, this session will give us a closer look at the figure of Ziryab, an inventive character from Muslim Cordoba.Storytellers will take us back to Muslim Cordoba. With the narrators’ sense of humor, their marionette show and the active participation of the audience, they will be introducing the figure of Ziryab, an inventive, very talented character who knew how to express great cultural wealth as a musician, philosopher, chef and introducer of customs and fashions that we continue to use today without even realizing.

“Women and Spirituality in Islam” and Dhikr

The Dhikr is an exercise which can be performed alone or, as in this case, in a group ceremony.
