Records of Memory: Mahmud Reda
From February 15, 2013 until March 01, 2013
A new interview in the Records of Memory series, which on this occasion presents the figure of famous Egyptian dancer Mahmud Reda, creator of what is known today as "Oriental dance."
Mahmud Reda is a self-taught dancer who created what we now call “Oriental dance.” Born within a family that is greatly concerned with the preservation of its cultural heritage and legacy, Reda has been a solo performer, choreographer and director of hundreds of productions, as well as an actor, dancer and choreographer in some of Egypt’s most popular films. He is also an exceptional witness to the country’s history, because he has lived through the times of many Egyptian rulers: King Farouk, Nasser, Sadat and Mubarak, as well as today’s Egypt of the revolution.
