Research on the colonial Spanish Cinema
From July 26, 2010 until September 28, 2010
On September 28th, Casa Árabe presents the book La llamada de África. Estudios sobre el cine colonial español (Africa’s Call. Research on the colonial Spanish Cinema) by Alberto Elena (Edicions Bellaterra, 2010) including within the event the show of pieces of the films.
An approach to the Spanish colonial cinema history, which is virtually unexplored in multiple ways. A cinema which permanently echoed the renewed imperial dreams of Franco’s regime but also included the constant tensions of a historical period marked by decolonization and the various independencies of young African nations.
This book suggests a new approach to our peculiar colonial history and reflection on the effects in the long term on the new and substantially different postcolonial scenes.
At Casa Árabe’s Auditorium at 7.30 p.m.
