In Cordoba on Thursday, March 27, Casa Árabe has organized this colloquium with artists Roger Anis and M’hammed Kilito, participants in the exhibition “Paisajes efímeros del sol” (“Ephemeral Landscapes of the Sun”), and Stephanus Meyer, creator of the exhibition “Red. Raíces Rojas” (“Red Roots”), which you can see at Casa Árabe as part of the Biennial. Come listen to their talk.
The Cordoba Photography Biennial is celebrating its nineteenth edition by demonstrating the excellence of a project promoted by the Cordoba City Hall and AFOCO. At this edition, Casa Árabe is joining forces with Spain’s top photography festival by hosting two shows in its exhibition halls: “Ephemeral Landscapes of the Sun”, a group exhibition that won the 2024 edition of the NUR call for entries organized by Casa Árabe and PhotoEspaña, and “RED Roots: Portraits of South African Townships”, by photographer Stephanus Meyer (Zambia, 1964), which was organized with the cooperation of the Cordoba City Council.
On the occasion of the Biennial, on Wednesday, March 27 Casa Árabe will be hosting a meeting that promises to become an exciting journey through the eyes of three great visual storytellers. During an event prior to the official opening of the exhibitions, a round table discussion will be held to bring together photographers Roger Anis (Cairo, Egypt, 1986) and M’hammed Kilito (Lviv, Ukraine, 1981), along with the curators of the exhibition, Analía Iglesias and Irene Díaz, in addition to Stephanus Meyer, alongside curator José Gálvez. All of them will together be unraveling the mysteries of this artistic universe while inviting us to immerse ourselves in the poetics of these creations. It will form a dialogue in which the image becomes a testimonial to memory and exploration, thus building a bridge crossing between cultures, territories and emotions.
Roger Anis (Cairo, Egypt, 1986) is an Egyptian documentary photographer. He co-founded the Everyday Nile Initiative, which provides skills to visual storytellers from Nile Basin countries.
M’hammed Kilito (Lviv, Ukraine, 1981) is a National Geographic photographer and explorer who lives and works in Rabat, Morocco. His career in the arts has revolved around exploration of the links which individuals and groups create with their surrounding environment.
Stephanus Meyer (Zambia, 1964) is a self-taught photographer born in Zambia and raised in South Africa. He has been living in Spain since the eighties. His work encompasses social, street and documentary photography, with a particular focus on how light interacts with its surroundings.
