A Tour Through Arab Madrid

From May 31, 2014 until July 05, 2014

Vacancies for participate are already sold out, from April through July.

Thanks to the success of our prior tours with the public, we are now organizing new tours along with Ahora Arquitectura to discover Madrid’s Arab origins. The tour will explore the remains and influences of the capital city’s medieval era, at a time when it was known as Mayrit.

Madrid was founded in the mid-ninth century (sometime between the years 853 and 865) by Emir Mohamed I of Cordoba as a military settlement, and it remained under Muslim power until its conquest by King Alphonse VI of Castile in 1085. From those two centuries, various remains of the original walled premises are still standing (in Mohamed I Park and Plaza de la Armería), as well as several vestiges located in the environs of the Almudena Cathedral (Calle Bailén, 12) and the Plaza de Oriente (Torre de los Huesos). The tour also includes the Arab heritage present in later Mudejar style architecture (Church of San Nicolás, Church of San Pedro and the Casa y Torre de los Lujanes), as well as a visit to the Museum of San Isidro.

The starting point for the tour will be the Museum of San Isidro-Museum of Origins (Plaza de San Andrés, 2). It will begin at 6:00 p.m. and lasts approximately two and a half hours. Price: 6 euros. Upcoming dates: on Saturday, April 26, May 31, June 14 and July 5.
