Al-Andalus and the thousand-year Kingdom of Granada (1013-2013) will be the subject of debate and reflection at the seminar and series of conferences which Casa Árabe, with the cooperation of the Alhambra and Generalife Board of Trustees and the Legacy of Al-Andalus Foundation, has organized as the final brushstroke to the exhibition Art and Cultures of Al-Andalus. The Power of the Alhambra, which has been on display since December 2 at the Chapel and Crypt of the Palace of Carlos V and in certain rooms within the Nasrid Palaces set up especially for this event.

In order to demonstrate the achievements of Al-Andalus from the ninth to fifteenth centuries and the developments which occurred in the many different forms of artistic expression, several specialists will be explaining their scientific research throughout the course of this seminar in order to appreciate the contributions by this great culture, their continued existence and their values in terms of symbolism and identity.

On the morning of January 21, the General Director of Casa Árabe, Eduardo López Busquets, along with the Director General of the Alhambra and Generalife Board of Trustees, María del Mar Villafranca, and the Director of “The Legacy of Al-Andalus” Andalusian Public Foundation, Marina Martín, presented the schedule for the series of conferences which will be taking place at the Casa Árabe headquarters in Madrid, at Calle Alcalá 62. Free entry until the event’s capacity is reached. At the same time, as regards the seminar which will be held at the Palace of Carlos V in the Alhambra, anyone interested in participating in this free activity must sign up in advance by writing to the e-mail address jornadas@milenioreinodegranada.es where your registration will be confirmed. 

The series of conferences will be officially opened at Casa Árabe’s headquarters on the upcoming date of January 28, with a speech by the Director General of the Alhambra and Generalife Board of Trustees (PAG), María del Mar Villafranca, and the Heritage Advisor of the PAG, Jesús Bermúdez, on The Alhambra, History and Heritage.
