To mark the anniversary of the negotiations to end apartheid in South Africa, Casa África is organizing the presentation of this book by Enrique Ojeda (published by Catarata) at Casa Árabe’s headquarters in Madrid.

In South Africa and the Road to Freedom: From apartheid to democracy, the historical process in South Africa is examined in depth, from the formation of the racist Republic to its final downfall. It is a process that marked the entire African continent and shocked millions of people around the world, both due to the horrific characteristics of the system left behind, which discriminated against its own citizens based on the color of their skin, and because of the charismatic personality of the main leader of the struggle against it, Nelson Mandela.

“A book of history, political analysis, sociological understanding and, above all, subtlety and intellectual depth in the interpretation of the motivations and the strategic and tactical movements of role-players in horrific battles and harrowing journeys to end apartheid, eventually avoiding civil war through an original agreement to dismantle the racist State between the white supremacist defenders of the regime and the group of organizations led by Mandela’s ANC (African National Congress).

Although the author carefully and expressively describes hope in this epic story, Enrique Ojeda intends to create a personal read, from the profound viewpoint of a diplomat who has spent decades reflecting on this conflict; though this humility should not confuse the reader: the book is so much more.” (Sami Naïr)

The event will be attended by the author, who will be accompanied by the philosopher Sami Naïr, who wrote the book’s foreword, and José Segura Clavell, the General Director of Casa África.

Enrique Ojeda Vila holds a degree in Law from the University of Seville. He has been posted at Spain’s diplomatic and consular missions in Bolivia, Guatemala, the United Kingdom and New York.
