On Thursday, December 1, Casa Árabe, the Cervantes Institute and LaLiga are presenting a new “Spanish-Arabic football dictionary” in Madrid. The event forms part of the “Football for Hope” program and is being held to mark “Arabic Language Day.”

The presentation of this improved and revised edition that provides a complete list of football vocabulary in both languages, includes contributions by Irene Lozano Domingo, General Director of Casa Árabe; Luis García Montero, Director of the Cervantes Institute, and Marco De Santis, manager of LaLiga for the MENA region.

The contents of this illustrated dictionary include information about the teams in the Spanish league and their cities of origin, the different titles and competitions, the players, vocabulary about the field and actions of the game and a wide range of football concepts. However, it also provides additional vocabulary about social interactions, such as conversation guidelines with general concepts for introducing oneself, talking about the weather, heading towards a certain place, handling oneself in a restaurant, hotel or mode of transportation, and other situations.

This activity forms part of the “Football for Hope” project, a Casa Árabe initiative which seeks to promote the values of sports and give our country a closer look at Arab culture, coinciding with the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, the first World Cup to be held in an Arab country. Moreover, it is being held to mark the occasion of International Arabic Language Day, which is commemorated each December 18, for which Casa Árabe has planned a full schedule of activities.
