At its Madrid headquarters on Tuesday, April 7, Casa Árabe will be hosting this international seminar, organized by the Fundación Promoción Social through its Center for Middle East Studies (CEMO). You may now register to attend.

The event, titled ”Spanish Cooperation in Action: Transformative partnerships for the promotion of the rights of rural Palestinian and Jordanian women with disabilities,” intends to address the realities faced by these women from a vantage point which links contextual analysis with practices in international cooperation, public policy design and local capacity building.

In doing so, the event has been conceived as a space for sharing experiences, analysis and reflection that will make it possible to identify lessons learned, best practices and challenges in promoting women’s rights within fragile contexts, thus helping to strengthen partnerships and develop more inclusive and sustainable responses. It will be held in a dynamic, participatory format focused on dialogue among public role-players, civil society, academia and international cooperation organizations.

The event has been organized by the Fundación Promoción Social and its Center for Middle East Studies (CEMO), with the cooperation of the Euro-Arab Network of NGOs for Development and Integration (READI), and is funded by the the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union, and Cooperation’s State Secretariat for Foreign and Global Affairs.

Organized into two panel discussions—one on civil society’s work to promote gender equality and another on the role of cooperation and humanitarian policies in promoting women’s rights—the event will feature, amongst others, Suzan Sahori, the General Director of Bethlehem Fair Trade Artisans, Anni Medzhagopian, the General Director of the Al Hussein Society, and Paloma Durán y Lalaguna, a professor of Legal Philosophy at Jaume I University, and a former director of the OECD’s Division for Global Policies and Partnerships and of the United Nations Fund for Sustainable Development Goals, who will be delivering the opening conference.

Opening the event will be Miguel Moro Aguilar, the General Director of Casa Árabe; Jesús Ángel Celada Pérez, the Ambassador on Special Mission for the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities; and Jumana Trad Yunes, the president of the entity Fundación Promoción Social.
