Arab Springs’ evolution

Casa Árabe organizes various speeches and round tables where experts will analyze the progress and backward steps on political changes within the Arab countries, as well as the outcomes of the elections which are to take place in some of them.


  • Thursday 20th October: Jordan: political and economic reforms, plus elections.
  • Tuesday 8th November (Madrid) and Wednesday 9th November (Cordoba): Tunisia: Legislative Elections. Poll Results Analysis. With Khadija Mohsen-Finan, Paris-V University.
  • Tuesday 15th November (Madrid) and Wednesday 16th November (Cordoba): Libya: Transitional Architecture and Institutional First Steps. With the presence of Mansour O. El-Kikhia, chairman of the department of Political Science and Geography at the University of Texas and counsellor of the Libyan National Transitional Council.
  • Wednesday 23rd November (Madrid) and Thursday 24th November (Cordoba): Morocco: Analysis on Reforms and Ongoing Electoral Operations. With the participation of Abdallah Saaf, director of the Centre for Studies and Research in Social Sciences (CERSS), Mohammed V University, Rabat.
  • Tuesday 13th December (Madrid) and Wednesday 14th December (Cordoba): Yemen: opposition and creation. The insights of a revolution. Lecture by Anahi Alviso, researcher at the Sanaa’s Centre Français d’Archéologie et de Sciences Sociales, which will be introduced by Gema Martín Muñoz, Casa Árabe’s Director General.
  • Wednesday 25th January (Madrid): Iraq.
  • Tuesday 31st January (Madrid) and Wednesday 1st February (Cordoba): Egypt a year after the revolution.
  • Wednesday 8th February (Madrid) and Thursday 9th February (Cordoba): Turkey and Arab revolts.
  • Wednesday 15th February (Cordoba) and Thursday 16th February (Madrid): Qatar’s role in view of the Arab popular revolts.
  • Wednesday 22nd February (Madrid) and Thursday 23rd February (Cordoba): Arab League and political changes within the region.
  • Wednesday 29th February (Madrid) and Thursday 1st March (Cordoba): Iran and political changes in Arab countries.

Speeches will take place at Casa Árabe’s Auditorium in Madrid (c/Alcalá, 62) and Córdoba (c/ Samuel de los Santos Gener, 9 -esquina c/ Velázquez Bosco con Plaza de la Agrupación de las Cofradías-) at 19.30, free entrance.
