Staffan de Mistura talks about Syria at Casa Árabe

The United Nations Secretary General’s special envoy for Syria will be analyzing the situation in the country  

  Staffan de Mistura was named the United Nations Secretary General’s Special Envoy for Syria in July 2014. Prior to that, he held the position of Special Representative of the UN Secretary General in Iraq (2007-2009) and was Italy’s Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs. Throughout his career, in which he has spent more than four decades working for different United Nations agencies, he has held positions in several areas of conflict, running complex operations for assistance, food distribution and vaccination campaigns. In particular, he has been stationed in Sudan, Ethiopia, Albania, Afghanistan, Iraq, Bosnia and Somalia. He has also held top-level political and humanitarian positions in Lebanon and Iraq and has worked as the Assistant Executive Director of the World Food Program. He has dual nationality, Italian and Swedish, and speaks seven languages.
