From January 25, 2013 until February 13, 2013
On Wednesday, February 13rd, a conference was held to introduce Sufism, with a demonstration of dervishes accompanied by live music afterwards.
This presentation, the title of which is “Introduction to Sufism, the Essence of Islam: Word, Music and Dance on the Path of the Heart,” was givenn by Abdul Wahid Martín, representative of the Naqshbandi Order in Spain.
The event began at 7:00 p.m. at the Casa Árabe Auditorium in Madrid (c/ Alcalá, 62), and after the talk there will be a demonstration of the whirling dervishes’ dance accompanied by live music. Entry is free until the room’s capacity is full.
The word “Sufism” is a very broad term which gives a name to different forms of spirituality within Islam. It originates from the Arabic word suf (wool), in memory of the habits worn by the earliest Sufis to develop Islamic spirituality. There is a large number of brotherhoods and movements, which have put various methods and rituals into practice as part of their devotion to matters of the spirit, purification of the soul, metaphysics, the internal interpretation of Islamic precepts and God’s relationship with the Cosmos.
