Round table discussion by Hashim Cabrera and Ana Crespo, as part of the exhibition “Jayal, Creative Imagination,” which is being officially opened on Thursday, May 4 at Casa Árabe’s headquarters in Cordoba.

At this time when the image of Islam is suffering a media onslaught with both events and news involving conflict and suffering, saturating the imagination of readers and television viewers with painful and hostile contents, now is an especially opportune time to become more familiar with Islam. Therefore, we would like to approach the rich cultural diversity we possess by bringing back an awareness of the meaning of Islam through one of its most popular manifestations, Sufism.

Deeply linked to the cultures in its surrounding environment, with unbreakable bonds of co-existence, mutual influence and constant creative interaction, Sufism is the most important mystical branch of Islam, particularly enlightening and inspiring for the arts, at both the present time and throughout the history of the Iberian Peninsula and the world.

This round table discussion, which will include the participation of Hashim Cabrera and Ana Crespo, and the related exhibition to be officially opened right after, will introduce the experience of a current meeting point between Spanish culture and the extremely broad and varied world of cultural, artistic and spiritual references from Islam and Sufism. Presented by Javier Rosón, Casa Árabe’s coordinator in Cordoba.
