Guitarist Taha el Hmidi is presenting his first album, Out of Nowhere, at anintimate concert. It is taking place on Monday, March 7 at our headquarters inMadrid. Tickets now on sale.
Taha el Hmidi is a young Moroccan guitarist originally from Kenitra who is already considered amongst the best jazz guitarists from the Maghreb region. At this concert, he is presenting his first album, Out of Nowhere, which he composed and produced himself. Taha shifts effortlessly between jazz and rock, with a touch of the blues and psychedelic sounds. Distorted guitar sounds, effects, delaysand loops all form part of Taha’s new sound, which he uses to take his listeners on a musical journey.
El Hmidi took up music at the age of 16. During his early years, he experimented with other styles, including indie and metal, and he played for other bands in Europe. In 2016, he returned to Morocco and created his own project in the field of improvisation. He then joined the Diapozone collective, allowing him during those years to take part in intense professional activity through residency programs and participation in festivals. It was in 2018 that Taha decided to launch his most personal project, thus contributing to the Moroccan jazz scene with a style influenced by names like Christian Scott, Alfa Mist and Bob Reynolds, one result of which is the album we are now presenting.
During this first concert at Casa Árabe, he will be accompanied by renowned musicians from the Madrid music scene, like Pablo Hernández Ramos on saxophone, a performer he previously played with in Morocco and France, Denis Bilanin (keyboard), Javier Geras (bass) and Akindimeji Onasanya (drums).
