In 2021, a decade will have passed since the outbreak of the so-called “Arab Springs,” and Casa Árabe will be dedicating a large part of its programming to this subject throughout the year. Check what activities we have planned here.
The proposed events include:
- Several of the conferences in the series Aula Árabe Universitaria
Dec. 16, 2020 - The State After the Arab Uprisings, given by Luis Martinez, CERI (Paris)
March 2, 2021 – Algeria’s “Hirak”: A case study on protest movements, given by Karima Dirèche-Slimani, CNRS, Aix-en-Provence
March 16, 2020 – Ten years after the outbreak of revolution: what are the prospects for Syria?, given by Salam Kawakibi, Arab Center Paris
April 7, 2021 – Democratization versus democracy: how European policy failed the Arab uprisings, given by Andrea Teti, University of Aberdeen
Apr. 19, 2020 – Literature and revolutionary movements in the Arab world, given by Francesca Maria Corrao, Luiss University of Rome.
- Commemoration of World Arabic Language Day (December 18, 2020) with “The Streets Speak Arabic,” a talk with artist and American University of Cairo design professor Bahia Shehab.
- Congress: “The Arab Springs Ten Years Later,” organized with the cooperation of the Universidad Complutense de Madrid, to be held from February 10-12, 2021.
- Conference series: “The People Want It.” The first session will be held on Monday, January 11 and will be devoted to Yemen. Throughout the first semester, we will also be discussing five other countries: Egypt, Tunisia, Libya, Syria and Bahrain.
- Film series.
