On Monday, June 17, the Spanish-Arab Intercultural Circle (CIHAR) is holding its tenth annual meeting, in an event organized under the auspices of the Embassy of Tunisia, with the cooperation of Casa Árabe. Furthermore, the annual awards granted by the entity will be presented.
Like every other year, CIHAR is celebrating its annual meeting, which has been titled ”The Arabic and the Hispanic go hand in hand” for this tenth edition. At the event, the participants will be highlighting this cultural relationship based on historical Spanish-Arab ties, which make it possible for ideas, knowledge and approaches to be shared, thus enhancing the value of this cultural bond.
At the end of the meeting, we will be giving out the CIHAR Gold Medals for 2023. The award-winners are as follows:
In the category of individuals:
• Dr. Hanoos Hanoos. Arab-Iraqi artist. Painter, engraver and professor. He is being bestowed with this award for his artistic work to create bridges between Arab and Hispanic culture with the European culture in the background, all in favor of interculturalism.
• Dr. María Isabel Calero Secall. Arabist, retired professor, Vice-Rector of the University of Malaga, Department of Arabic language. She is being awarded this prize for her career as a professor of Arabic and her work in the field of Spanish-Arab culture and the enhancement of the legacy of Al-Andalus, as a vehicle for interculturalism.
• Dr. Emilio González Ferrín. Arabist, Islamologist, and professor of Arab and Islamic thought at the University of Seville. He is being awarded this prize for his career as a professor of Arabic and his studies on Spanish-Arabic culture and the enhancement of the legacy of Al-Andalus as a vehicle for interculturalism.
• Dr. Rosa María Hervás Avilés. Professor and coordinator of the Master’s Degree in Education and Museums: Heritage, Identity and Cultural Mediation - University of Murcia. She is being awarded this prize, for her work on Spanish-Arabic culture with reference to the Moorish heritage seen in irrigation ditches and the enhancement of the legacy of Al-Andalus as a vehicle for interculturalism.
In the category of entities:
• Universidad Pontificia Comillas – Department of Translation and Interpretation and Multilingual Communication at the School of Human and Social Sciences, Arabic Section. This award is being given for promoting the teaching of the Arabic language and promoting it through annual events with the participation of institutions, teachers and students.
• Casa Árabe – Language Center. Teaching Arabic as a foreign language This award is given for professional dedication to the teaching of the Arabic language with excellent results to people of different ages, who are interested in Arab culture and Arabic language.
• Grupo Editorial Sial Pigmalión. Special editions on Arab and Spanish-Arab culture. This award is given for its editions on Spanish-Arab culture, linking the literatures and social culture from both shores of the Mediterranean, in order to promote interculturalism.
