MADRID
Casa Árabe Auditorium (at Calle Alcalá, 62).
7:00 p.m.
Free entry until the event’s capacity is reached.
Casa Árabe is presenting this fun phonetic method to learn reading and
writing in Arabic, designed for children with hearing impairments, as
well as pre-school and primary school students.
The event, to be introduced by Pedro Villena, the General Director of Casa Árabe, will include speeches by Federico Palomeras, the National Secretary of UNESCO’s Spanish Cooperation Commission; Alfonso Garrido Ávila, the General Coordinator of the Secretariat General for Action Abroad of the Department of the Presidency of the Autonomous Regional Government of Andalusia, María del Rosario García Molina, the author of this language education method and President of the UNESCO Center in Seville, Spain; and Leocadio Marín Rodríguez, teacher of deaf students.
This fun phonetic method to learn reading and writing in the Spanish and Arabic languages, with the original title of “A Jugar...!!!” (“Start Playing...!!!”), was created over 20 years ago but remains up-to-date as one of the finest teaching tools designed originally for children with hearing impairments, though it is also completely suitable and advisable for pre-school students and those in the earliest years of primary school.
It is a learning method based on playing, which holds an especially important role in promoting integration. All of the children in the classroom, both those who hear and those who having hearing and language difficulties, learn sign language at the same time as learning to read and write. Because the DVD comes with a version in Arabic, it is intended for Arabic-speaking children and youths who are living in Spain, as well as those who are currently in their countries of origin. Moreover, it may contribute to learning the Spanish language.
The DVD is already being given out for free in Morocco, in both the Moroccan school system and amongst NGOs that work with children who have hearing disabilities.
A DVD will be given to all those teachers and education experts who request one.
