The event will include the participation of Casa Árabe’s General Director, Pedro Martínez-Avial, at the opening, as well as talks by Nikolas Jaspert, of the University of Heidelberg; Eduardo Manzano Moreno, of the CSIC; Alejandro García Sanjuan, of the University of Huelva, and Martin Dahms, a correspondent for the Berliner Zeitung and Frankfurter Rundschau, with moderation by Sabine Panzram, of the University of Hamburg.

The goal is to provide an overview of the importance of the Arab legacy in Spain in a context like today’s, when the monuments which form part of that legacy are being threatened in other parts of the Mediterranean. The Iberian Peninsula continues to provide a wide range of research opportunities in this field. In this sense, it is helpful to take a look at the interest in this legacy up to now for disciplines such as history, archeology and philosophy, as well as potential lines of research which may open up in the future for Germany and Spain.

This session has been organized by Casa Árabe, along with the Information Center of the German Academic Exchange Service in Madrid and the CSIC’s Institute of Languages and Cultures of the Mediterranean and Near East, as part of the program for Spanish-German Dialogue on the Sciences, to be held on the same morning at the CSIC.
