The art and memory of Al-Andalus take center stage within the activities held for the European Erasmus+ MOSAIC project in Cordoba

From October 06, 2025 until October 10, 2025
CÓRDOBA

On October 6 to 10, Casa Árabe has organized an event in Cordoba, in conjunction with the Mateo Inurria School of Art and Design, consisting of a series of activities within the European Erasmus+ MOSAIC project | Mediterranean outreach: strengthening Arab identity and culture, an initiative devoted to reflecting on the legacy of Al-Andalus and Arab heritage in Europe through art, heritage exploration and digital storytelling.

For five days, approximately thirty young people took part in an intensive program of creative workshops and educational tours of the Mosque-Cathedral of Cordoba, the Jewish Quarter, the Archeological Museum and Medina Azahara, where they got the chance to discover the historical and symbolic wealth of Al-Andalus heritage up close. The activities were coordinated by Casa Árabe, with the cooperation of Prof. Rosa Illanes from the Mateo Inurria School, Prof. Carmen González from the University of Cordoba and the Algarabía Cultural Association.

Throughout the week, these young people explored the living presence of Al-Andalus inside the city, reinterpreting their surroundings through drawing, photography and digital tools. The experience allowed them to approach the heritage of Al-Andalus from a creative and contemporary perspective, strengthening intercultural dialogue and inclusiveness, while shaping new personal and collective narratives that connect past with present.

The project will culminate in the recording of a series of video podcasts, in which participants share the conclusions and reflections that came about as a result of this creative process. These materials will be presented during a closing event at Casa Árabe Cordoba, which will serve as a meeting point for sharing the results and lessons learned from MOSAIC.

The MOSAIC Project | Mediterranean Outreach: Strengthening Arab identity and culture project, co-funded by the European Union’s Erasmus+ program, promotes awareness and appreciation of Arab heritage in Europe, as well as cultural diversity and the development of digital and creative skills among young people from different backgrounds. Run by Amal for Education (Italy), with the cooperation of AIYD (Turkey), Casa Árabe (Spain) and Generation Change (Malta), the project fosters intercultural and intergenerational dialogue through art and technology, celebrating a common, diverse, truly vibrant heritage across the Mediterranean.
