To mark the release of their first album, When the Sun Rises, a work which came about through the collaboration of Syrian musician Hames Bitar and Iran’s Kaveh Sarvarian, the Cardamom Trio will be giving this concert during the last week in the month of Ramadan.
Bitar and Sarvarian, joined by Spanish percussionist Luis Tabernas, are united by a shared interest in exploring the essential elements of Arab and Persian musical traditions. Cardamom Trio has developed a unique style that engages with these forms of musical heritage from a contemporary perspective. Their music combines these traditions with arrangements and techniques drawn from Western music, creating a language of sound that brings together intercultural sensitivity and artistic experimentation.
At this concert, the project is further expanded upon by adding Arabic and Persian vocals, through the participation of two exceptional guest performers: Linda Alahmad and Navid Norouzi, whose vocals bring new dimensions of expressiveness to the group’s repertoire.
Linda Alahmad is a performer who combines musical and dramatic talent. Specializing in classical Arabic singing, she has a solid track record in theater, film and television. Throughout her career, she has recorded several songs to pay tribute to the Syrian Revolution, and she regularly collaborates with the Cardamom Trio and Darawish projects, taking part in both recordings and live performances. At the same time, she carries out outstanding educational work as a teacher of classical Arabic singing.
Navid Norouzi showed a deep interest in Persian singing from a very young age, particularly in the traditional style for which his home town is known. In recent years, many of his performances have been shared on digital platforms, helping him to gain greater recognition among audiences. Born in Isfahan, he has participated in many different festivals and music events throughout his career, gradually gaining a foothold as one of the leading voices in the Persian vocal tradition.
