The Observatory of Islamic Finance in Spain SCIEF - Casa Árabe has published this socio-economic memorandum, which will be presented at Casa Árabe’s headquarters in Madrid on Wednesday, April 24. You can register now.

In recent years, Islamic finance has experienced remarkable growth in terms of both volume and geographic expansion. Islamic financial assets as a whole reached an estimated total value of USD 4.5 trillion in 2022, a figure which is expected to increase to USD 6.7 trillion in 2027 (ICD, 2023), thus demonstrating their resilience and strength at present, as there are numerous countries in which they have achieved substantial structural weight.

Within Europe, they provide development opportunities by converging with one of the sectors with the greatest growth and potential in recent times: ESG (environmental, social and governance) criteria.

Moreover, knowledge and mastery of Islamic financial products is increasingly necessary for those companies that seek to do business in countries where Islamic finance is gaining systemic weight. The economic diversification of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries and growth in Southeast Asia are creating business opportunities which increasingly require companies to design their projects in line with Islamic finance, or even use it to finance part or all of the projects.

The Observatory of Islamic Finance in Spain SCIEF - Casa Árabe has published this socio-economic memorandum on “The expansion of Islamic finance in the world: opportunities in Europe and Spain,” which provides us with an update on the latest advancements and developments shown by sector and market for Islamic finance at a global level, broken down by regions and countries, including Europe and Spain, while identifying those where it has achieved substantial structural importance and opportunities for Spanish companies are to be found.

The results of the report will be presented within the framework of a meeting of the members of the Observatory, with attendance by the author of the report and several experts in the field. Those attending will receive a copy of the report. Free attendance with prior registration here.

The SCIEF-Casa Árabe Observatory of Islamic Finance in Spain is a group for analysis and consultation that gathers knowledge about current affairs in Islamic finance. It includes the main experts, consultancies, law firms and banking institutions working in or specializing on this subject in Spain. Created in 2017 by Casa Árabe and IE University’s SCIEF (Spanish-Saudi Center for Islamic Economics and Finance), its activities include a periodic meeting by its members to discuss specific topics related to the industry’s development in Spain, conducting case studies and holding expert conferences, as well as producing an annual report on the state of Islamic finance in Spain.

On April 18 and 25, the Observatory will also be offering the chance to sign up for a course titled “Introduction to Islamic Finance: Fundamentals on ethics, trends and opportunities,” held across two mornings in sessions totalling 8 hours, for those who wish to delve deeper into these topics (further information).
