The artist from Granada interprets the artistic splendor of Al-Andalus and gives us a peek into the brilliant poetic and archeological legacy through her work.
Wa bia l shiru fi suqi l kasadi....(and poetry is sold in a market with no buyers).

This verse was often recited by the thirteenth-century Al-Andalus poet Abu Yaafar Aḥmad, who was given the nickname of al-Kasad for using these words as a form of protest when his desire to live off of poetry grew frustrated. It includes the expression which lends its name to El zoco sin compradores (The Market with no Buyers), a bilingual anthology of poems from Al-Andalus, selected and adapted by writer Modest Solans Mur (Barbastro, 1951 - Guadix, 2012). The book was republished in 2018, and was illustrated for that occasion by Leonor Solans (the author’s daughter), leading to the project The Market with no Buyers: Treasures of Al-Andalus. The exhibit includes large canvases inspired by the material culture of Al-Andalus (vases from the Alhambra, dishes from the palace china and capitals), the series of forty watercolor paintings which illustrate the new edition of the anthology and a selection of poems which make it up.

The Market with no Buyers: Treasures of Al-Andalus is being presented at Casa Árabe in Madrid, after being shown at the College of Spain in Paris and in the  Royal Room of Santo Domingo in Granada.

Leonor Solans (Seville, 1980) has a degree in Fine Arts from the Alonso Cano School of Granada, the city where she lives and works. She has collaborated as an illustrator with several publishing firms, including W. W. Norton & Company (New York) and Espasa (Barcelona), and with prestigious journals such as El Legado Andalusí (The Legacy of Al-Andalus, Granada) and AramcoWorld (Houston). She has put on several exhibitions in cities like Paris, Madrid, Barcelona, London, Malaga and Tallinn, the most recent of which was one titled The Gold of the Tigers at the Palace of the Counts of Gabia, belonging to the Provincial Government Office of Granada, inspired by Borges’ work of the same name and dedicated to Time and Memory, and The Market with no Buyers: Treasures of Al-Andalus, which she uses to delve into the poetry and art of Al-Andalus. She has received many different awards, the most notable of which include the López Villaseñor Award for the Plastic Arts, the Olympic Barcelona Foundation Award, the National Painting and Sculpture Prize of Melilla, the Emilio Ollero Painting Award and the Centennial Painting Award of Spain’s Picos de Europa National Park. She has also received several art fellowships, such as the Talens Fellowship, the fellowship of the La Rectoría Art Center in Barcelona, the fellowship given by the Rodriguez Acosta Foundation in Granada, that of the Becarte Andalusian Youth Institute in Huelva, and the Residence d’artistes Campagn’ART fellowship in St. Martin,Toulouse.
 She is currently undertaking the work to complete a new series of paintings that she will be presenting in June of 2019 in Madrid.
