Casa Árabe and the European Institute of the Mediterranean (IEMed) are
presenting this latest issue of the journal Quaderns in Madrid
The Institute of the Mediterranean is presenting a new issue of its journal Quaderns de la Mediterrània, with the title “Mediterranean Challenges Today / Retos Mediterráneos hoy.” It is intended to provide an analysis of the different fields of activity that make up the Barcelona Process.
The event will include presentations by Pedro Villena, the General Director of Casa Árabe; Senén Florensa, the General Director of IEMed, and Haizam Amirah Fernández, researcher for the Mediterranean and Arab World at the Real Instituto Elcano.
Those attending the event will be given a copy of the publication.
Despite the difficulties, this is a good time to take stock of the last 20 years of the Barcelona Process, to examine new challenges and to propose initiatives for a better future in the Euro-Mediterranean region. In this sense, the journal’s dossier examines the various fields of cooperation mentioned in the 1995 Declaration (economics, energy, transportation, gender, communication, etc.) and establishes the foundations upon which we must re-examine the future in each of these fields. To do so, the journal relies on contributions by noteworthy experts in five different sections: “Civil Society Today,” “A Space in Crisis,” “Challenges for Women,” “The Media and Digital Technology,” and “Economic and Environmental Challenges.”
IEMed is a center of study and analysis for the identification and interpretation of challenges in the Mediterranean area and for the drafting of proposals intended to overcome those challenges. It also provides spaces for reflection, analysis and debate, as well as consultation and assistance for cultural and cooperation-related projects. It promotes participation by civil society within the Mediterranean space through various networks, with the cooperation of entities in the social, economic and cultural realms.
