This round table discussion is being held on October 7 to analyze energy relations between the European Union and the Maghreb region.

The raw materials trade, sharing of business experiences and good regulatory practices can help foster growth and energy security on both sides of the Mediterranean.

Despite the involvement and efforts by the EU and Maghreb, joint positions and inter-regional cooperation do not always become a reality, though the potential exists to take action and adopt common positions. In this sense, it is essential to foster debates on issues related to the Spain-Maghreb cooperation experience and its energy alliances in order to promote contributions to EU-Maghreb energy cooperation.

These topics will be analyzed at the round table discussion “The relationship between the EU and Maghreb from the perspective of energy,” resulting from the joint initiative by the office of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom (FNF) in Madrid, Casa Árabe and the Libertas, Veritas et Legalitas Forum (LVL) on foreign policy.

Taking part will be Nemesio Fernández-Cuesta, former Secretary of State for Energy and a professor at the IE Business School and Carlos III University; Ana Camacho, a journalist and researcher specializing in African affairs and a professor of International Relations at Francisco de Vitoria University, and Iskander Ben Mustapha, an expert on international development in the Maghreb countries (who will connect via Zoom from Tunisia), with moderation by Pedro Martínez- Avial, the General Director of Casa Árabe. Also participating in the opening event will be David Henneberger, director of the Spain, Italy, Portugal and Mediterranean Dialogue Office of the FNF, and Fernando Maura, president of the LVL foreign policy forum.

The round table discussion will be broadcast on the MD-GO YouTube channel (Mediterranean Dialogue Channel For Freedom).
