On Thursday, June 6, Igor Gayarre will be giving this concert in Cordoba, on the therapeutic dimension of string music in the Sufi world. It will be taking place in the main courtyard. In order to attend, you must sign up in advance here.

In his work “La Senda de las Cuerdas” (“The String Path”), Igor Gayarre carries out an artistic investigation on the guitar, forming a unique cosmogony of the instrument. It highlights the therapeutic power of music and string instruments, something which has defined them since their origins, especially in the Arab and Sufi world. We will be delving into this musical concept, learning about the therapeutic dimension of music in the Sufi world, through an experience in which the music of the guitar merges with his words and the images in his artistic research notebooks.

In Arabic there are two terms for what we mean by music; one, gina’, which means “singing,” referring to composed music, and the other, sama, which refers to auditory activity, or what is known as “full listening.” In his show, Igor Gayarre combines improvisation which he uses to experiment with full listening, alongside his own compositions. Garraye, who took his first steps as a self-taught electric guitarist approaching rock, funk and metal, drifted towards flamenco under the tutelage of the master Andrés Palacio, jazz under the guidance of Antonio Sáinz, and the “manouche” style of music at the Gypsy Jazz Academy run by Joscho Stephan.
