After questioning elected President Mohammed Morsi’s performance one year after taking office, the enormous demonstrations on June 30 gave rise to a dramatic change in course on July 3. On that date, Morsi was removed from his position and was replaced by an interim government. Since then, President Adly Mansour and the Minister of Defense and Assistant Prime Minister, General Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, have led an interim government, alongside other political figures, marked by uncertainty, violent confrontations and arrests of the Muslim Brotherhood, whose feasibility as a legal organization is at stake. Analyzing the political transition in this Arab country, as well as its consequences in terms of the economy and security, is a fundamental task in order to understand the region’s future. This Egyptian diplomat will be offering a conference at which he will review what has taken place in his country since the so-called Arab Spring and up to the current moment. During his speech, Zaineldin will be accompanied by Charles Powell, Director of the Elcano Royal Institute and Vice-President of the Spanish Transition Foundation, and Jesús Núñez Villaverde, the Co-Director of the Institute for Studies on Conflicts and Humanitarian Action (IECAH). The speeches will be given in the Arabic, Spanish and English languages, with a Spanish and Arabic-language interpreter. Free entry until the event’s capacity is full.
