Madrid’s Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Services has organized this newonline conference with representatives from Tunisian and Spanish developmentagencies and business organizations to analyze the opportunities in Tunisia’s agro-food industry.
Tunisia, with more than 11 million inhabitants, is among the most competitive economies in the Arab world and Africa, with a highly rated business environment (ranked 19th in the “Doing Business Ranking,” in terms of ease of opening a business) and an enviable geographic location straddling Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Tunisia also ranks number one in North Africa in terms of attracting talent according to the Global Talent Competitiveness Index.
Political relations and trade between Spain and Tunisia are excellent, Spain being its seventh largest supplier and fourth largest customer in the world, with significant investments being made in several industries.
Although the government’s main goals are to achieve macroeconomic stability and inclusive growth, the IMF forecasts GDP growth of 3.3% in 2022, improving on prepandemic data. Economic growth is led by the tourism sector, agricultural production and strong exports (especially phosphates). Agriculture continues to play a key role in the economy, accounting for nearly 10% of GDP and 16% of all jobs, thus contributing to regional development. The aim is to promote agricultural products and the agro-food industry as parts of sustainable development and a circular economy in the country.
The meeting, organized by Madrid’s Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Services and Tunisia’s Foreign Investment Promotion Agency (FIPA-Tunisia), with the collaboration of Casa Árabe, will be opened by the ambassadors of both countries, the president of the Madrid’s Official Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Services, and Angel Asensio, the director general of FIPA, Abedelbasset Ghanmi, with moderation by the president of the Spanish-Tunisian Chamber of Commerce, Mohsen Boujbal.
