Prof. Álvaro Abella, from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid, will be giving this conference in Cordoba on Wednesday, April 2, as part of the event series “The Arabs and Their Poetry: A journey across the centuries.” Discover the most brilliant authors from one of the main focal points of poetry in the Arab world from the last century.

Egypt was one of the great poetic centers of the Arab world in the twentieth century. This conference will provide a brief overview of the developments in Egyptian poetry during the last century, from the most traditional and neoclassical movements to the avant-garde and folk poetry written in dialect. The goal is to introduce the public to the most renowned authors in that period, from Ahmad Shawqi to Iman Mersal, by reading a selection of their translated texts.
