From December 14 to 16, the University of Salamanca will be hosting the twenty-fourth Forum for Research on the Arab and Muslim World (FIMAM), an academic gathering that brings together the presentation of recent or ongoing research on various topics related to the Arab and Muslim world.

In all, more than 60 papers will be presented during three days of analysis, research and debate on the Arab and Muslim world.

Casa Árabe is collaborating this year with the screening of the film Memory Box (Joanna Hadjithomas and Khalil Joreige, France, Canada, Lebanon, 2021), on December 14 at 6:00 p.m., in the Law School's Graduate Hall.

The screening forms part of the multidisciplinary program of the forum which, in addition to communications and round tables, includes book presentations: The crossroads between radicalization and deradicalization. Theories, tools and applied aspects, by Roberto M. Lobato and Josep García Coll (Catarata, 2022), Qatar. La Perla del Golfo, by Ignacio Álvarez-Ossorio and Ignacio Gutiérrez de Teherán (Península, 2022); Amal, by María Vioque (Océano Atlántico Editores, 2022); Palestina desde las epistemologías del sur, by Jorge Ramos Tolosa (CLACSO, 2022); and Sahara, democracia y Marruecos, by Bernabé López García (Icaria, IEMED 2022). In addition, a photography exhibition by Gaza photographer Majdi Fathy, on the daily life of people in the Palestinian territories, will be on display.

FIMAM is an informal meeting for exchanges between researchers from all over Spain, open also to researchers from other countries, in which research in its initial, intermediate and final stages is presented, with the goal of discussing and learning about the different works being carried out on the Arab and Muslim world.

It is an initiative of scientific cooperation and thematic information on the Arab and Muslim world that brings together an important part of the Spanish research world on these issues, with the participation of professors, researchers and experts from universities and research centers in Spain and other countries.

Since it was founded in 1995, an annual meeting has been held with the objective of building a network for sharing knowledge and information among experts and researchers on the Arab and Muslim world in its different disciplines, as well as contributing to the dissemination of their research and the transmission of knowledge about this geographical region. It currently has more than 200 members, specialists in the many disciplines that make up the social sciences, thus promoting an increasingly necessary multidisciplinarity in scientific analysis and studies.

Collaborating entities: European Institute of the Mediterranean (IEMed), Euro-Arab Foundation for Higher Studies (Fundea), University of Salamanca, Islamic Library of the AECID and Casa Árabe.

Organizing Committee: Ángela Suárez (USAL), Victor Moreno (USAL), Rosa Martínez (UAB), Leticia Rodríguez (UGR and Hamad Bin Khalifa University Qatar), David Hernández (UCM), Lucía G. del Moral (Fundea and UGR) and Néstor Prieto (USAL).
