This year, the University of Valencia is hosting the annual meeting of the Research Forum on the Arab and Muslim World (FIMAM). The meeting will be held from October 22 to 24 in the “Turia River capital.”

The twenty-seventh edition of the Research Forum on the Arab and Muslim World (FIMAM), an annual meeting of researchers and experts who do work about the Arab and Muslim world on the Iberian Peninsula, also open to researchers from other countries, will be held at the University of Valencia School of Geography and History on October 22, 23 and 24, 2025.

Focusing on contemporary topics, the forum provides a space for analysis and a yearly meeting where researchers can present and share their work at different stages of development (completed, in progress or in the initial phase). As at previous editions, the presentations will be covering a wide variety of topics, from democratization processes and political transitions to diasporas, translation and linguistics, spanning different geographical regions from the Maghreb to the Gulf and Central Asia, without setting aside the Palestinian question, which three sessions will be discussing this year. The meetings and round table discussions organized throughout the three days of the conference include a round table for presenting thesis projects currently in their initial stages, with the goal of gathering opinions and advice from more experienced members.

Casa Árabe is contributing through the opening speech on October 22 at 7:15 p.m., on the topic of ”Climate Change in North Africa: Socio-ecological transformation and fair environmental transitions,” given by Julia Choucair, a senior Non-Resident Fellow at the Arab Reform Initiative and a professor of International Relations at IE University.

Also taking part in the opening ceremony will be a representative of the Board of FIMAM, the event organizer, Manuel Lomas, dean of the University of Valencia School of Geography and History; Miguel Moro Aguilar, the General Director of Casa Árabe; Bárbara Boloix, the Executive Vice-secretary of the Euro-Arab Foundation; Senén Florensa, Managing Director of IEMed; Haizam Amirah Fernández, Executive Director of the CEARC, and Paqui Santonja, the Head Advisor of Casa Mediterráneo.

The Forum for Research on the Arab and Muslim World (FIMAM) is an initiative for scientific cooperation and thematic information on the Arab and Muslim world which brings together a significant portion of the Spanish research community working on these issues, with the participation of professors, researchers and experts from universities and research centers in both Spain and other countries. Since it was founded in 1995, an annual meeting has been held with the goal of creating a network to share information.
