Twenty-sixth Meeting of the Forum of Researchers on the Arab and Muslim World

From October 16, 2024 until October 18, 2024See schedule.
ALICANTE
Casa Mediterráneo and University of Alicante. See schedule.

The newest edition of this forum will be held in Alicante from October 16 to 18, bringing together the latest research and projects under way in Spain about the Arab and Muslim world, taking place across three days full of analysis, research and debate. The forum has the support of Casa Árabe, among other entities.

This year, from October 16 through 18, Casa Mediterráneo and the University of Alicante will be hosting the twenty-sixth Forum for Research on the Arab and Muslim World (FIMAM), an annual gathering that combines the presentation of recent research, as well as round table discussions, research project presentations, books and issues of recently published journals on the Arab and Muslim world.

Among the collaborating entities, in addition to Casa Mediterráneo and the University of Alicante, are the European Institute of the Mediterranean (IEMed), the Euro-Arab Foundation for Higher Studies (Fundea) and Casa Árabe. Casa Árabe will be taking part in the opening event and this year will be contributing with the publication of a selection of the papers in a monograph of the journal Awraq.

The FIMAM is an informal gathering where researchers from all over Spain can share information and is also open to researchers form other countries, allowing them to present research projects in their initial, intermediate or final stages so as to debate and learn about other work being performed on topics involving the Arab and Muslim world.

It is an initiative for scientific cooperation and thematic information on the Arab and Muslim world that brings together a significant part of Spain’s research scene working on these topics, with the participation of professors, researchers and experts from universities and research centers in Spain and abroad.

Since it was created in 1995, an annual gathering has been held with the purpose of building a network to exchange knowledge and information among experts and researchers on the Arab and Muslim world in its different disciplines, as well as contributing to increased awareness about their research and the transmission of knowledge about this geographical region. It currently has more than 200 members, specialists in the many disciplines which make up the social sciences, thus promoting an increasingly necessary multidisciplinarity in scientific analysis and studies.

Every year, one university or institution hosts the event, in different places throughout the Iberian Peninsula. In 2017, the twentieth FIMAM Congress was held at Casa Árabe’s headquarters in Madrid, and in 2018 Casa Árabe’s headquarters in Cordoba hosted the Twenty-first FIMAM Meeting along with the CSIC.
