A meeting of women authors as part of the “Grito de Mujer 2017” International Poetry and Art Festival.

Casa Árabe, the Intercultural Spanish-Arab Circle, the Women Poets Foundation and the Grito de Mujer (“Women’s Scream”) brand invite you to this meeting as part of the activities at the seventh edition of the “Grito de Mujer” International Poetry and Art Festival of 2017: Women in Spanish-Arab Poetry

The Seventh “Grito de Mujer” International Poetry and Art Festival of 2017 has the slogan “A Cry for Freedom, to pay homage to all of the girls around the world” and will be held throughout the month of March 2017, with the participation of poets, artists and charitable institutions.

Casa Árabe is joining this initiative and will be hosting the Festival’s scheduled event on March 14, hosted and presented by Asunción Caballero, with three different interventions included.

To begin this evening of contemporary Spanish-Arab women poets, we will be attending the presentation of Almas con pies descalzos (Souls with Bare Feet), the new work by celebrated Arab-Syrian poet Maram al-Masri. Though the author will not be attending, the presentation will be given by Pilar Garrido Clemente, holder of a PhD in Arabic Philology from the University of Salamanca, the general coordinator of the Mare Nostrum campus and a professor at the University of Murcia, along with Javier Marín Ceballos, a cultural technician with the Autonomous Region Government of the Region of Murcia, and an editor and translator. There will also be an audiovisual projection by the author herself, Maram al-Masri, explaining her work.

We will then continue with the second portion, a presentation of the work No vayas a la muerte solo (Don’t Go to Death Alone), by another Arab-Syrian poet, Maisoun Shukair. The author herself will be giving us a reading of her verses in Arabic, with a recital thereafter of the translation given by Leonor Merino García, a doctor of French Philology and specialist in Maghrebi and Arabic Literature from the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, as well as Asunción Caballero, a cultural manger, coordinator of the “Grito de Mujer” festival and author known as Mascab.

The session will come to a close with Leonor Merino García, Asunción Caballero and Chelo de la Torre, Spanish authors and poets, reading some of their works to have been translated into Arabic.
