Agreement reached with the Spanish Egyptology Association 

Last Thursday, June 18, Casa Árabe’s General Director, Miguel Moro Aguilar, and the President of the Spanish Egyptology Association (AEDE), Rosa Pujol Calaforra, signed a memorandum of understanding aimed at promoting cooperation between the two organizations.

Also attending the event were Ignacio Peláez, treasurer of the AEDE, and Cristina Juarranz, Casa Árabe’s Programming Coordinator and Assistant Director.

The agreement establishes a framework for cooperation to organize joint activities intended for promoting the study, research and increased awareness about Egyptian civilization in Spain.

After signing the memorandum, the AEDE’s Ordinary General Assembly took place, being held for the first time at the Casa Árabe headquarters. During the meeting, members took a look back at the activities carried out over the past year, examined the association’s management, approved the financial statements and reported on the projects and lines of action planned for the coming years. The session was opened by Miguel Moro Aguilar, who welcomed the attendees and highlighted the value of the newly established cooperation between the two organizations. 

Founded on December 29, 1986, the Spanish Egyptology Association (AEDE) is the oldest of Spain’s institutions devoted to the study of Egyptology. It is a scientific, non-profit institution which strives to provide education and increase awareness about Egyptology. Its objectives include:
- The preservation of the cultural heritage of Pharaonic Egypt
- Exploration and research into that civilization.
- Promoting the dissemination and spread of Egyptological knowledge in Spain
- Defending and promoting Pharaonic culture
- Collaborating with national and international institutions dedicated to Egyptological activities.

As part of its outreach efforts, the AEDE organizes courses in Egyptology, spring monographic seminars, national and international seminars, conferences, monographic exhibitions, guided tours, book presentations and courses in the Egyptian language using hieroglyphic script.  

In terms of its publications, the association publishes an annual scientific bulletin featuring articles, papers, book reviews and other items of interest related to Egyptological research.It also publishes monographs on topics in Egyptology in its series Cuadernos Egiptológicos and Bibliotheca Aegyptiaca, and maintains an extensive Egyptological library, the collections of which are available to members and scholars upon request. 

To promote studies in Egyptology, the institution awards a scholarship every two years to acknowledge the best research work on an Egyptological topic, and it helps fund various archeological missions throughout Egypt.
