"Arab women and active citizens"
Casa Árabe and the Spanish Agency for International Cooperation for Development (AECID) organize this forum, where the new dynamics on women participation and acting in the public scene as well as their role in current citizen massive demonstrations will be looked through on the 4th, 5th and 6th April.

Around two round tables, a group of women from several Arab countries will debate what they understand as being an active citizen and they will show precise experiences and examples of new models of political, economical, new communication and cultural networks.
Women and youth in general are the two factors of modern Arab societies which unquestionably better incarnate those democratic lacks and are the social sector which represents and goes ahead of the current generational breach which those countries are undergoing. The first aim of this forum is to listen at them and to speak directly with them, to address their change aspirations, tackle their new roles in society and their citizen and democratic activism through different spheres.
During this Forum, a double concert will take place, the Moroccan rap singer Hanane, known under Tendresse, and the Tunisian songwriter Badiaa Bouhriz, known under Nayssatou, will play.
MONDAY 4TH APRIL. DEBATE
The first debate “Being an active citizen in current Arab world” will take place with the participation of Laila Al Shaikhli, journalist by the Qatari channel Al-Jazeera; Alia Elyassir, UN Women responsible for the Palestinian Territories; Asma Khader, former Jordan Culture Ministry and lawyer; and Malika Bouram, representing the Sidi Wagag Femme Agricole cooperative in Morocco.
The discussion will conclude with the show of several short films on the topic.
The event will take place at Casa Árabe’s Auditorium in Madrid (c/ Alcalá, 62) at 19.30. Free entrance.
TUESDAY 5TH APRIL. DOUBLE CONCERT
A double concert will be played. First, the Moroccan rap singer Hanane, alias Tendresse, representant of a new musical generation where women are also heeard and their messages are rap rhythm broadcasted.
Second, the concert will be chaired by the Tunisian Badiaa Bouhrizi, known for many as Neyssatou. These singer’s songs combine her sweet and intense voice beauty with engaged lyrics. Her music gathers jazz, reggae, soul and Berber folk.
Concerts will take place at Sala Heineken in Madrid (c/ Princesa, 1) at 20.00. Free entrance, limited by space availability. Ticket collection at Casa Árabe’s headquarters (c/ Alcalá, 62) on March 31st, April 1st and 4th from 12.00 to 14.00 and from 16.00 to 19.00 and April 5th from 12.00 to 14.00. People under 18 years old are not allowed into the event.
WEDNESDAY 6TH APRIL. DISCUSSION
The reflection on the woman topic will conclude with the discussion “Young women and new ways of participation. Experiences”: Selma Ouissi, Tunisian Dream City festival director; Tahani Madmad, member of the Moroccan Human Rights Association (ADMH); Laila Al Shaikhli, journalist by the Qatari channel Al-Jazeera and Salma El Tarzi, Egyptian cineaste and activist; will be taking part in it.
