From the very moment it became aware of the attack, the Embassy of Spain in Tunis has been in constant contact with the Tunisian authorities, should any Spaniards have been affected, and this Ministry’s central services activated their crisis unit for consular emergencies. Unfortunately, the Tunisian authorities informed us minutes ago that those killed include at least one Spanish national, though for the moment we have no further details. This attack has caused nineteen deaths and a high number of injuries amongst the museum’s visitors.

At this time of pain, the Government would like to express its heartfelt condolences to the family members of all the victims, both those from Spain and of other nationalities, and to the authorities and people of Tunisia, and all the countries whose citizens have been victims of this atrocious terrorist act. We hope for a full recovery of those injured.

The government of Spain and Casa Árabe condemn this cowardly terrorist attack in the strongest of terms and reiterate our full solidarity with the authorities of Tunisia in their fight against terrorism, trusting that the perpetrators of this hideous crime will be held accountable for their actions before the Justice system.

Likewise, Spain reiterates its support for the exemplary process of transitioning to democracy protagonized by the people and authorities of Tunisia.
