Award of the President of the Tunisian Republic for Islamic Studies
Tunisia’s Ministry of Religious Affairs has announced the tenth edition (1434 H - 2013) of the International Award of the President of the Tunisian Republic for Islamic Studies.

This award pays homage to those who are distinguished for presenting an objective image of Islam and promoting religious thought which is based on values such as dialogue, openness and moderation. The winner in 2009 was Spanish professor Juan José Tamayo, for his book “Islam: Culture, Religion and Politics” (published by Editorial Trotta).
The conditions to be a candidate for the award are as follows:
1. The award is granted to any individual or legal entity which has been distinguished within the international arena for a contribution to disseminating an enlightened image of the Muslim religion, the noble principles and utmost moral values of Islam, so as to enrich the thought and efforts of the Ijtihad (creative interpretation), which is based on dialogue and openness and rejects inflexibility and withdrawal into oneself.
2. The candidate must submit an original study of at least 250 pages (average format), written in the Arabic language or one of the most significant international languages, published for the first time no more than two years prior to the date on which the candidacy is submitted.
3. Works which have formed part of a university thesis, critical editions of manuscripts and works which have already received awards may not vie for the International Award of the President of the Republic.
4. Fifteen (15) copies of the study must be submitted by the deadline of September 2, 2013.
5. The candidacy must be submitted along with the candidate’s curriculum vitae (résumé), highlighting his or her scientific activities, publications and contributions to the enrichments of the Ijtihad (creative interpretation) and a summary of the book that has a length of no more than five pages in Arabic.
6. The award consists of a diploma of acknowledgment signed by the President of the Republic, a medal and an economic compensation of thirty thousand (30,000) Tunisian dinars.
7. The files must be sent by certified mail or by international post to: Monsieur le Ministre des Affaires Religieuses, at the following address: 76 bis, avenue Bab Bnet 1019 (La Kasbah) Tunis, or they may be submitted at any Embassy of the Tunisian Republic located abroad.
8. The award winner’s name will be announced on the occasion of the New Year in the Hegira calendar (1434 Hegira - 2013).
