Call for presentations at the twenty-eighth FIMAM Conference in Cordoba in October 2026 

The Forum for Research on the Arab and Muslim World (FIMAM)  is now accepting abstracts for presentations to be given at its next meeting, to be held at the Casa Árabe headquarters in Cordoba as part of the events commemorating the institution’s twentieth anniversary. The deadline for submitting candidacies is May 10. Send in your submission now!  

The twenty-eighth FIMAM meeting will be open to researchers from Spain and other countries. Candidacies may be submitted in the form of completed, ongoing and early-stage research projects devoted to contemporary Arab and Islamic studies from a social sciences perspective.

Those wishing to apply with projects in the early stages of development with the objective of receiving feedback and advice from more experienced scholars in their field of study may specify this in order to be granted a short additional time slot for such discussions.

The conference will be held entirely in person at the Casa Árabe headquarters in Cordoba, Spain from October 21 to 23, coinciding with the institution’s twentieth anniversary celebrations. The panels will be held primarily in Spanish, but presentations in other languages (English, French) may be considered. Panel discussions will be held mainly in Spanish, but contributions in other languages (English, French) may be considered, as well. Only one presentation is permitted per author, with the exception of authors who have co--authored another presentation that will also be presented. Online participation will not be permitted under any circumstances.

The subject areas listed below are intended to facilitate the organization of the conference but in no way constitute the final panels to be held at the twenty-eighth FIMAM Meeting:

4. Gender and Sexuality
5. Society/Societies and Social Movements
6. Politics and the State

The deadline for submitting summaries, containing no more than 300 words, is Sunday, May 10. All applications must include the following information:

- Author’s name
- Presentation title
- Abstract/Summary (no more than 300 words).
- Key words (no more than 5 words)
- Current status of research: initial, ongoing or completed
- The subject area from the list in which you wish to submit you paper/presentation
- Scientific discipline of the paper
- Educational level and institution of origin.
