The agreement was signed in Madrid on June 10 by Casa Árabe’s General Director, Miguel Moro Aguilar, and the Executive Director of the CEARC, Haizam Amirah Fernández, after a preparatory meeting held on May 22. Their cooperation will enable the development of a shared agenda of activities aimed at expanding the international outreach of the two institutions, particularly in the Arab world and Latin America.
The purpose of the memorandum is to promote contemporary Arab studies and academic research on Arab countries, giving special visibility to the work done by young researchers, as well as supporting the publication of works on Arab countries, cultures and societies in Spanish, thus strengthening and contributing to the development of relations between the academic communities of Spain, Latin America and Arab countries in these fields.
“This is a fundamental strategic partnership for Casa Árabe, which will allow us to strengthen the institution’s impact in Arab countries, while expanding our outreach into Iberian-America and strengthening networks of knowledge and cooperation between both regions,” emphasized Miguel Moro Aguilar during the signing ceremony.
As for Haizam Amirah Fernández, he highlighted the importance of the cooperation between Casa Árabe and the Center for Contemporary Arab Studies (CEARC) to develop Spanish-language initiatives that bring together researchers, scholars and individuals interested in the political, social, economic and cultural realities of the Arab world.
Casa Árabe and CEARC share a common vision based on promoting knowledge, analysis and dialogue about contemporary Arab societies. Both organizations have previously collaborated on various initiatives, and with this new framework for cooperation, they are consolidating a relationship aimed at generating greater synergies and opportunities for collaboration.
Among the first planned actions are joint participation in conference programs on current issues, debates on new publications, and cooperation in the Research Forum on the Arab and Muslim World (FIMAM), to be held in the upcoming month of October at Casa Árabe’s headquarters in Cordoba.
This agreement represents a new step in strengthening academic, cultural, and institutional ties between Spain, the Arab world and Latin American countries, promoting the sharing of knowledge and the development of projects in their common interest.
