Casa Árabe takes part in the Emirates Festival of Literature
On Friday, February 4, Casa Árabe will be taking part in “East Meets West,” dealing with topics such as literature, art and cuisine, to be held as part of the Emirates Literature Festival taking place in Dubai from February 3 to 13.

To analyze these issues, on Friday, February 4, at 6:00 p.m., the “East Meets West” event will be taking place, with participation by Karim Hauser, Casa Árabe’s International Relations Coordinator; Daniel L. Newman, a professor of Arab Studies
at the University of Durham, and writer Lucinda Dickens Hawksley. The event will be moderated by writer Rehan Khan.
About the speakers:
Karim Hauser is the International Relations Coordinator at Casa Árabe, where he has edited three books on the Arab presence in the Americas. He has previously worked as a correspondent for BBC World in the Middle East, based in Cairo (2005-2008). Born to a Mexican father and an Egyptian mother, Karim Hauser is fluent in four languages a specialist in intercultural mediation.
Daniel L. Newman is a professor of Arab Studies at Durham University and the author of “An Imam in Paris: Account of a Stay in France by An Egyptian Cleric,” and “The Sultan’s Feast: A Fifteenth-Century Egyptian Cookbook.” Lucinda Dickens Hawksley, a descendant of Charles Dickens and prolific author of fiction and non-fiction alike, her works include “Dickens’s Artistic Daughter Katey” and “Charles Dickens and His Circle.”
Rehan Khan is a writer and keen observer of history and cross-cultural connections. Rehan has always been interested in how ideas move from one civilization to the next. His first book of historical fiction, “A Tudor Turk,” was nominated for the Carnegie Medal in 2020.
