At the meeting, held on Friday, November 21, the director of Casa Árabe explained the institution’s strategic lines of action for the upcoming years. He and the Yemeni ambassador discussed the potential for carrying out activities to promote greater understanding of the situation in Yemen amongst the members of Spanish society as a whole.

The Spanish Embassy in Yemen was officially opened in April of 2006. The purpose of opening the diplomatic mission was to boost bilateral relations between the two countries. However, due to the conflict, the embassy had to close in 2012. Through specific contributions, such as donations to donor conferences, Spain contributed almost €10 million to development cooperation in Yemen from 2010 to 2020. The trade balance between Spain and Yemen in recent years has been characterized by its low volume and a surplus for Spain, which is gradually decreasing due to Spain’s purchases of fish.
