Christopher Ross visits Minister García-Margallo

The special UN envoy to the Western Sahara meets with Spain’s Minister of Foreign Affairs in Madrid

Madrid, February 18, 2015 The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, José Manuel García-Margallo, held a meeting today with the special United Nations envoy to the Western Sahara, Christopher Ross.

Ministro_Christopher_RossAmbassador Ross just completed a tour in which he visited Rabat, Nouakchott, Algiers and Tindouf. García-Margallo expressed an interest in the work performed by the special envoy during this recent tour and asked about his impressions after the tour and the potential future changes in this area.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs highlighted the role of Spain as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council and an active member of the Group of Friends of the Western Sahara to Ambassador  Ross. He once again expressed to the special envoy Spain’s support for his work towards seeking a fair, long-lasting, mutually acceptable political solution that foresees freedom of determination for the Western Saharan people within the framework of the principles and objectives of the United Nations Charter.
