CIHAR officially ends the “Year of Arab-Islamic-Moorish Sciences”

The Intercultural Spanish-Arab Circle (CIHAR) is officially closing off this project on Saturday, November 19 in Ronda, the birthplace of Abbas Ibn Firnas, the world’s first pilot. It will include the screening of a documentary and a musical performance.

The project “2022, Year of Arab-Islamic-Moorish Sciences” has received the support of scientists from the School of Arab Studies EEA - CISC.

The event, sponsored by the Municipal Government of Ronda, will be taking place on Saturday, November 19 at 6:30 p.m. in the Chapel of Ronda’s Palace of Congresses in the “Convento Santo Domingo” and will be attended by ambassadors from Arab countries and personnages from the scientific, socio-cultural and intercultural fields.

During the event, a documentary on Islamic sciences will be screened, and diplomas will be awarded to the participants in the project. It will end with a musical performance.

Ronda is the birthplace of the Moorish scientist Abbas Ibn Firnas, considered one of the most important and fascinating figures from the ninth century and the first ever pilot in the world. He lived most of his life in Umayyad Cordoba. A man of exceptional intelligence able to take on huge work loads, and endowed with a spirit reminiscent of that the Italian Renaissance geniuses, he cultivated nearly all disciplines of knowledge, in both scientific and technical research, as well as literary and musical creation.
